TIME & DATE: This is an online, 2-hour workshop that will run from 10am-12pm CST on 3/20/21.
The workshop will also be recorded & uploaded to a Dropbox folder, which participants will have unlimited access. This allows students the ability to revisit the workshop content at their leisure.
AGE GROUP: This course will be open to high school students through adults. LIMITED to 6 students.
OVERVIEW: After writing the song, pre-production is arguably one of the most important aspects to ensure that your songs are ready to record and that the recording process goes as smoothly as possible. This workshop focuses on a step-by-step process for improving and implementing highly effective pre-production. These techniques are time-tested traits of successful producers and songwriters. The main components of this workshop include:
- Refining the Song(s)
- Utilizing Reference Songs Effectively
- Determining the BIG 2: Key & Tempo
- Creating Demos For Evaluation
- Budgeting: Money & Time
AUDIENCE: This course is designed for songwriters who are preparing to record their song(s) or who want to improve their recording experience and end product. LIMITED to 6 students.
PREREQUISITES: There are no prerequisites for this workshop.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: At the end of this workshop you will be able to:
- Conduct thorough and effective pre-production of your song(s)
- Discover and apply accurate and effective reference songs
- Apply a step-by-step process for determining the best key and tempo for your song(s)
- Employ time-tested techniques to improve and strengthen your song(s)
- Streamline and improve your recording process through effective pre-production
INSTRUCTOR: This course will be taught by Bryan Hayes. Bryan is an Avid Certified Instructor and a graduate of Berklee College of Music (Master of Music in Music Production). He is a Professor of Music Production at Visible Music College in Memphis, TN. In addition to teaching, he is a producer, engineer & nationally touring songwriter. He owns and operates Farmhouse Recording Studio in Moscow, TN. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Roots & American Music Society. Bryan is a member of Memphis Grammy Chapter Producer & Engineer Wing, as well as a member of the Audio Engineering Society.
